“The way that Restaurant Owners Marketing Academy came about was from my background,” she explains. “Before I started Elle Marketing and Events, I was the marketer and event planner for Whole Foods. And one of the things that I did was help small, local producers get their product ready for retail. It was a passion project for me. I just loved helping these small, local food producers have their businesses grow. And it was hanging out with those guys that made me start thinking I could start this business.”
Time and again, as she consulted with restaurateurs, Martinez would see owners struggling with marketing their businesses. They either spent too much money on ineffective marketing tactics or didn't know where to start. They didn't have things like cash flow. They didn't know about logo and brand, and design.
What’s more, after years in the marketing world, Martinez continually saw traditional public relations firms—even those specializing in hospitality—miss the mark. “Most marketing agencies do not understand restaurants,” she says. “Restaurant Owners Marketing Academy has this really unique perspective of knowing and understanding the industry while really knowing and understanding marketing, and that's actually pretty rare.”
That's when she decided to create an online academy specifically designed to help restaurant owners. Martinez has assembled a marketing team that comes with extensive food and beverage experience. “We've consulted and worked on hundreds of restaurants and food-based businesses over the years,” she continues. And that expertise, she believes, will help bring the attributes of each product and restaurant to life and make it meaningful to their customers. “These food producers, these restauranteurs, they know food, they understand food, they have beautiful stories about why they're doing what they're doing,” Martinez remarks. “There's so much passion behind them. I wanted to find ways to help them.”
